Recently the news has 'been dominted by'the arrest of the SMAP member. I've been a little 'dumbfounded'by the massive 'overreaction' in the Japanese media over this incident. Yes,he is a public figure who many people look up to. However,as no violence was involved,nobody was injured and there was no damage to anything I think the 'story(?)'has been 'blown out of all proportion'....

I have same opinion about overreaction' in the Japanese media.
But I think he should controll himself in drinking.
In fact I have watched him drink some glasses of beer even in his TV program（ぷっすま）．
Anyway drinking too much is bad.

Sorry to be so late with my answers. As to your question I think both are ok,however,because drinking too much IS bad for the health your first sentence is better I think. I also hope your daughter's trip can go ahead. It seems that the swine flu pandemic is easing a little so "fingers crossed"!
