While in Kyoto we popped into a local branch of the aforementioned chain. My wife was a little surprised to see some westerners eating in there. She was more surprised to note the staff were able to speak English. I have never once seen a clerk in a Hamamatsu fast food restaurant or supermarket speak even a few words in a foreign language. I wonder if this would make this city a little more welcoming for both tourist/business people and the non-Japanese already living here.(^_^;)
