One thing I noticed very quickly on arriving in Riyadh (in may) was the difference in climate between Saudi's 2 biggest cities. Over the last few days here the mercury has soared to 45 degrees. It goes without saying that is extremely hot, however in some ways it is a little more comfortable than Jeddah. Why? Well, here the climate is very dry whereas in Jeddah the weather conditions are much more humid, and more like the Hamamatsu summer I was used to for 11 years. It is still quite incredible though, that I can go for a walk at around 9 or 10 o'clock at night here, when it is completely dark, yet the temperature is still about 36 degrees!
